Simple Snatch Progression

Snatch Progression Video

This is a simple snatch progression that helps a ton of people in understanding how to control the arc in their Kettlebell snatch. This will keep you from hitting your forearms on the kettlebell.

Here’s a breakdown of the movements in the video:

  1. rows
  2. dead cleans – focus on the row portion as your hips extend
  3. swings are added for momentum, still patterning the row
  4. high clean – Instead of flipping the bell over into a rack position, let it float in a neutral position as you extend that row-like movement of the arm
  5. put it all together and finish the high clean with a strong lockout. Because the bell always remains fairly close to your body, the bell twists around the forearm, as opposed to flips and smacks the arm on any impact.

Practice the full progression and keep working, using small sets of snatches to focus on skill without building fatigue

Once you have the pattern solid, you can begin to re-shift your primary focus to driving the hips which will help allow you to achieve high volume of snatches – 100 in 5 mins for example (the SFG snatch test and the Tactical Strength Challenge).
